Families in Transition Donation Request List
Members are requested to bring donations to the June 15 meeting.
“Stuff the Bus” - Bonnie Bartlett has donated a cute popup bus for us to fill up with our donations! While we have all been thinking in terms of school supplies, when we asked our speaker, Nassau County FIT Homeless Liaison Mollie Cressey, about needs, she advised that the greatest need is actually clothing, particularly for middle and high school students. Please see Mollie’s comments below.
Donations:
We appreciate all donations, but we would love new shoes, socks, and underwear to make available to our students at the Clothes Closet. Our grant does not cover these items and they can be very expensive to buy with donation funds. We would hold on to the new items until August when our families come in to shop for the first day of school.
The Clothes Closet has all sizes, but below are the most needed sizes. The sizes listed are for our middle and high school students for which we usually do not receive many donations.
Shoes Underwear
Men’s sizes 6 – 14 Men’s boxer briefs - small, medium, large, and x-large
Woman’s sizes 6-12 Women’s size 4 -size 10
Hooded sweatshirts - Our students love hoodies, even in the summer, so those would be a hit as well. We serve all students and their younger siblings, so all sizes are useful. School appropriate clothing for children size 6 to adult large would fit our students from elementary through high school.
Donation of these other items are also appreciated:
Volunteers: (We love volunteers!)
Meal Packs
Our Meal Packs are packed by Barnabas and I am sure they would welcome the help with packing those. Contact Barnabas if you would like to help with Meal Packs. We only have next week left for our Meal Packs to go out since school is almost over so it might be a good opportunity to volunteer for next year as well.
My volunteers and I will be packing 150-200 bags with school supplies for next year in the next week or so. We would love extra help with that. I do not have a solid date yet since my supply orders are still coming in, but we are looking at possibly the 19th or 25th. Contact me at the number below if you would like to help pack supplies.
Clothes Closet
Also, we are in need of help at our Clothes Closet. We open our Clothes Closet to our FIT families on Mondays from noon until 5:30. It is completely run by volunteers, and we are currently a little backed up on sorting since some of our volunteers have been out. Our Clothes Closet is located at 850935 US Hwy 17 (across the street from the Pine Forest Motel) in Yulee. We could definitely use your help! If this sounds like something any of you would like to help out with, please let me know by calling the number below.
We would love your donations and volunteer efforts! Thank you so much for your generosity!
